J H Campbell was initially a self-taught artist. She spent many months  travelling Australia using an estate car as both a home and a studio. This was followed by a  year in Kenya where she experienced the cityscape of Nairobi and also the wilderness of the Aberdares – picturesque, steep forested ravines and open moorlands which provide a habitat for elephants, rhinos and leopards.

She has been a regular visitor to Tenerife ever since she was an infant, and, as with the Australian and Kenyan countrysides, many of her paintings show the landscapes she has encountered.

Like many modern travellers she has also visited several other countries including France, America, Switzerland, Dubai, Indonesia, the Netherlands and Spain. Unlike most holidaymakers, she uses the visual memories to create paintings both of the people she meets as well as the places.

JH appeared on TV’s  Sky Arts Portrait programme, her painting being chosen by her sitter, Asim Choudhary. She has exhibited at the Mall Galleries with her work being admired by Princess Michael of Kent. Whether portraiture or landscape, she has the ability to capture the flavour of a personality or a setting.

Numbered amongst her many favourite artists are Anne Gardner and Peter Doig. JH is currently studying Fine Art at the University of Brighton on the South Coast.
